"Eliminate"

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

The word I chose was 'eliminate'. Mainly I did this because it sounds like 'exterminate' which is a catchphrase of an alien on Doctor Who. The definition is on the previous post. These are the 10 Illustrator posts that I composed. Of these 10 I think that the last one is my favourite one. I like the shape of it and the general progression of the idea of eliminating.

Ren Fest Day!

Monday, October 21, 2013

Even in the rain the colours at the Renaissance Festival are impressive. If I could go out every day there with my camera, I still wouldn't take all of the photographs that I would want to. I love the setting and the colours and the characters and the action. It's amazing and it's like one giant pre-done photo shoot.

Poster Drawings

Sunday, October 20, 2013

I forgot to post these. It's just a kind of smattering of pictures and designs and such from the project. I never thought I would get this much use out of my tablet at school. I got it originally because I had seen digital drawings on Tumblr and wanted to try it, so my aunt got me a wacom tablet for my birthday. It is giving me good practice, even though I like to draw people more than inanimate objects.

Lanie Watching Television

Friday, October 18, 2013

I think that by the end of this year I will have an entire sketchbook of drawings of my roommate with her feet up watching TV in her Batman pyjamas. I like drawing her because she doesn't move when she's watching a show, which is amazing because she normally doesn't sit still for very long.

Tacsi Final Prototype and Poster

The Make It Better assignment is now over and these are the final results of my group. I am glad this project is done. It was difficult with the break thrown in towards the end for all of us to keep in contact and figure out what was going on when most of us weren't here. I'm not fond of group projects any way, but I do understand that in "real life" you will have to work with people in groups for jobs and such, but that doesn't mean that I have to enjoy it. Not that I didn't like the people I worked with, I just like working alone better. I am glad I will not have the stress from this project any more. Now, on to the next one!

This is the final prototype and poster.

The lid is technically supposed to be one of those screw on/off lids, but we couldn't make it so it is an in theory sort of thing.

Our final poster. Ben did the design and stuff, I did the line drawings of the old and new box with my tablet.

Tacsi Poster Prototype

Sunday, October 6, 2013

This is one of the poster designs created. It probably won't be used, but I thought it was a cool idea. I'm not fond of the way "tacsi" is spelled, but I don't have a better way to spell it, so it is good how it is.

And this is the first draft of our concept statement. We have to make some adjustments, but this was the first copy of it.
"Thumb tacks are useful, but annoying tools and they often come insufficient containers. Tack containers need a new design. We have accomplished this with our tacsi box. With the tacsi box there is a safer aspect to it since there is no danger of pricking your fingers."

Thumbtack Box Prototypes

Friday, October 4, 2013

These are some of the pictures for some of the prototypes my group has been working on for redesigning the thumb tack box.

We weren't sure on the shape the container should be, but we liked the idea of a circular container more than a box or rectangle like the bottom photograph.

We got some more sponges since those worked well to hold the tacks in place and cut them into circular shapes to better fit a rounded container.

We are still working out how to make the actual container for the tack, but the sponge works well.

The Thumbtack Container

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

My group chose our thumbtack container as our poorly designed object.
It was difficult to open (though this may have had to do with the tape that was camouflaged so well...). The tacks are also noisy in the container and the lid would sometimes spontaneously open and you would have a backpack full of loose tacks.

We want to redesign it so that you can easily pick up a tack without worrying about pricking your finger on the pointy end, something that organizes them better and is quieter as well as easier to store and a few other things.

A list of our pros and cons for the tack container that is our poorly designed object. There weren't that many pros for it.
