Trying Out My Tablet
Sunday, November 24, 2013
I have had a Wacom table for a little over a year, but I haven't thought that I was really good at it. I like working with it though, it's fun. I am actually pretty happy with this drawing. I drew it from a picture I had taken of one of my friends after my roommate went on a sort of flower crown frenzy for a friend of ours wedding. I want to fix some things, but overall I like it a lot.
Final Photo Book
The final book for the photo book. I like the design, it's fun to put back together, like origami or something. I wanted to do it like this from the beginning because we made little booklets like this in the art program I was in in high school and they were fun. It was easier though then because we did a sort of octagonal cut out though.
Final "Propel" Shots

The collection of photos from the day we put our word out in the round-a-bout.
I was sure that we were going to cause a car accident, people kept slowing down to read what it said. I sat with it for about two hours and only one person actually asked what it was for.

Article Responses

I understand that the article is trying to show that this is exactly how people should not view photography, but I feel offended (okay, that's a bit strong, but I can't think of the exact word I'm looking for) on behalf of photographers. You can put the camera in someone's hands, but that doesn't mean the picture will be good. It takes the photographer to make the picture artistic or have feeling. Photography might be quicker than painting, but that doesn't mean it's a lazier field of art. I realize that the article talks about how over the course of history photographers started pushing for their field to be viewed as artistic, but the whole thing just kind of made me mad as a photographer.
The second article I found interesting. They are all very good points for photography. They are what can make a photograph good. The tip that I have always found the most helpful has been the Rule of Thirds. Centering a photograph is not usually the best, off-setting helps animate the photograph in a way it might not be when it is centered or before it is cropped. That is the rule I have found most helpful in my photographic experience though.

"Propel"
Friday, November 1, 2013
The word that my group has is "propel".
Definition: to drive, to cause to move, forward or onwards
One of the original ideas had an arrow involved, showing the direction of movement and that stuck in the final design.
Another idea was of propellers, but we couldn't figure out how to make it work in a way that it could be used around campus.

An idea was to have the model of the word on wheels so it could be wheeled around, to show motion. That is the main reason the arrow is curved, so that if there were wheels no part of the model would drag or be caught on the ground.
